Off to the Cardigan Nationals!!!

Yes, we leave tonight to the Cardigan Nationals in Gettysburg, PA. I will have limited email access, so please be patient in responses. Secret will be going with us, so wish us luck!

On the side of availability... right now I have one older female Cardigan available, Della. Cardigan puppies are due in May (Lincoln x Nola). And we also have two joint litters of Papillons due in May as well.

Results from national...

Morgan won Best Veteran on Saturday! Scarlet managed to come out with 4th place in Bred by despite her sillyness! Congrats to the big winners who all deserved their respective wins. Now today I get to go in the ring with my special! :-)

BC National Results...(thus far)

Just to let everyone know...Jenny is doing well thus far. Scarlet won 1st place in 9-12 mth Puppy Bitch Sweeps yesterday. She also won 4th place with Shadow in 15-18 mth Bitch Sweeps (Shadow is owned by Jerry). To top the Sweeps day, she won Best Veteran Sweeps with Morgan! Since I judged the Futurity I get to sit ringside for the national. I got the pleasure of stewarding for the sweeps judge and I really enjoyed that. Today is Regular classes, I get to mentor judges and sit ringside and watch!

Papillon Nationals

Some of you may remember a post a while back on my Papillon puppy. Walker, La Ren Moon Walker, is bred and owned by Janis McLaren. He is a phalene, yes the drop eared variety of a Papillon. Janis asked me to grow him up for her and quite frankly not sure if she will get him back as I just love him to bits! Well, this week was his debut show, at the national of all shows. Walker won 2nd place in 6-9 mth puppy dog Sweepstakes class and then followed it by 3rd place in 6-9 mth puppy dog Regular class. The Sweeps was out of 19 puppies, Regular classes was 24 puppies. He has been getting tons of compliments and has a real fan club among the phalene breeders. In fact, one person wanted to take him back to England!

Oh, btw, we are in Fort Mitchell, KY at the Drawbridge Inn. Tomorrow is bitch classes followed by BOB on Sunday.

I haven't seen a lot of pictures from the National yet...but I do have to say that I am not impressed with the ones I had done. Diesel is NOT stacked properly at all. Lincoln's turned out ok, but not spectacular.

The aftermath of Nationals...

It's always hard to come home from being gone so long. So much to get caught up on, so much to do, etc. Crazy person I am, I leave tomorrow for another show weekend!

There are many things I love about nationals, but one that is so important to me is the chance to reevaluate your breeding program. You get the opportunity to compare with others and ask your mentors what they think, etc. I came home from nationals this year, feeling like I am finally getting somewhere with my bloodlines. It has been my longtime goal to blend the American lines with the Australian lines, preserving the qualities in both lines, and coming up with some top winners. One of those special dogs is Lincoln. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, not everyone's love, but he is one of mine. And did I ever receive good comments back about him from well respected longtime breeders. I also am proud of Secret. Who, eventhough she didn't make any cuts, she showed her heart out. Diesel, another star, strutted his stuff and made his breeder very proud. I can't wait to incorporate his lines with my own and see if we can keep that type and style! Eventhough little Della was barely 9 months and looked very out of place in the huge 9-12 mth class...she did make the cut in Sweeps and took everything in like a little trooper. She may not see the ring again anytime soon, but I am sure she will uphold the strengths of her lines in her puppies someday. I came home to a mature Nola, who should be in the ring sometime soon (well as soon as I can afford it!). And Grandma Ash was very excited to see me and btw just turned 13!

One of the best memories from this national will be standing by ringside when Parade of Title holders was going on. Seeing Maggie shine just as much at 17 as in her winning years was breathtaking and brought tears to everyone's eyes. A legend in our breed that we will all remember and hold close to our hearts.

One of my other memories of this national is seeing my longtime friend, mentor, and adoptive grandmother, Dorothy Hartcher. I always cherish the time I get to spend with Dorothy. She has an amazing wealth of knowledge and truly is an insperation to me. I am hoping that I can save up my pennies and go back to Australia next year for the Corgi Nationals. It would be great to see my old friends and be able to help Dorothy at her nationals.

Home...day 2

Since we had already had seen most of the scenery this day from the trip to Kansas...I didn't take many pictures. We went from Rawlins, WY to Pendleton, Oregon. Mom and I had thoughts of arriving home a day early...but we would have arrived at 1-2 am and thought better of it! Home today!!!!

The trip home...day 1

We had a wonderful national and I will post more about it when we get all the way home. I thought I would post some pictures from our first day of travel back home. We ended up in Rawlins, Wyoming for the night. For the trip home we went through Kansas, cut through Colorado, and then picked up Wyoming, so it was a bit different.

I have a couple shots from Colorado...but I guess they weren't as important as these. Mom and I decided that Wyoming is MUCH prettier with snow all over it. We just missed a 6 foot snow storm, but it certainly was pretty!!

The sunset was just gorgeous going through Wyoming.

National results...

Camp Pawcific is having a good national! Yesterday in Sweeps we won 4th place in 6-9 puppy dog with the baby puppy of Jacque Chapman that I am showing for her. Little Gunner did great! Then in 12-15 mth dog, Lincoln won 4th place. Today in Dog Classes...Diesel won 2nd place in 12-18 mth dog and Lincoln won 2nd place in a very competitive Bred By dog class behind Paula's gorgeous red Winners Dog. I was very proud of my boys!!!

Tracking Test

Well...the Cardigan passed! But...Mom didn't. She got off the start, took the first corner, and then Rocket took the first cross track. Darn!! Of course, he nailed the rest of the track, so Mom felt good about where Rocket is at in his training and knows that he is ready to trail, just needs a little more work on cross tracks!

Day 3

Here is our third day of travel. We didn't have that far to go compared to the last two days. We went from North Platte, Nebraska to Smithville, Missouri.

Because of the way we went...we ended up going through the corner of Iowa. Here is the only picture I got. Looks like Nebraska with hills in the background instead of flat land!
